

Open House London is the capital’s largest architectural showcase. In celebration of design excellence, 700 buildings of every size and shape will open their doors to all completely free.
For this one weekend you can explore all corners of the capital and see the beauty of the city’sarchitecture.Here in Hounslow some of the Borough’s wonderful architectural features are open for you to explore.

Chiswick House

Glorious example of 18C English architecture in the classical style, the £12 million restoration of the gardens includes RIBA Awards-shortlisted cafe by Caruso St John, a single-storey pavilion, encircled by an arcade of Portland stone piers, resembling an abstract temple.

Chiswick Parish Church

Grade 11* Listed church on site for 1,000 years (tower1435), rebuilt by J L Pearson in 1883, the site features many notable monuments including Hogarth, Whistler, de Loutherbourg tomb by Sir John Soane. J L Pearson 1884.
Chiswick Town Hall

Built initially as a vestry, later extended with Victorian and Edwardian interiors that boast rich tiles and stunning stained glass, Chiswisk Town Hall has one of the most beautiful Victorian interiors in London. W J Trehearne 1876/ Arthur Ramsden 1901.

Isleworth Public Hall

A recently refurbished public hall, a well-executed and colorfully detailed example of Victorian reading and vestry rooms (1863) with an added public hall. By S Woodridge 1887.
Longford Community School: New Library

Extension and conversion of an existing 1960s building, a vibrant colorful structure, and the library is an adaptable open plan area that can be used for different ways of teaching. A raised area of carpet clad cubed modules for seating, bespoke designed tables and benches and enclosed curved 'arena' space. RIBA Award Winner 2010.Jonathan Clark Architects 2009.
Osterley Park House

One of Britain's most complete examples of the architect's work, set in over 350 acres of park, garden and farmland. Robert Adam 1761.

St Mary's Convent

Convent in 18C Grade II listed house with original features, with various additions including west wing (1913-15) and harmonious care home facilities and chapel by PRP Architects (1998-2001).
Voysey House/Acanthus LW Architects

The former Sanderson factory, now an architects' office is Voysey's only industrial building, in white glazed brick with horizontal black banding and distinctive scalloped parapet.

West Thames College (former Spring Grove House)

Remarkably intact prime example of late Victorian architecture and interior design, which includes stained glass windows and mosaics. Grade II listed with one remaining fine Georgian room. Previous owners include Pears 'Soap' family and Sir Joseph Banks, founder of Kew Gardens. Sir John Offley/ various 1645 onwards.
West Thames College: Atrium Building
London Road, lsleworth TW7 4HS
Modern, state-of-the-art college building- mainly wood and glass with lots of natural light and vibrant, spacious interior. Complements the Grade II listed Spring Grove House (see entry above). Sustainable features include rainwater harvesting and auto-sensor lighting.

Walking tours
Isleworth Walk
Meet on Saturday at 3pm outside Isleworth Public Hall, South Street, Isleworth, TW7 7BG
A walk encompassing a wide variety of architecture-a Victorian villa decorated by sculptor Henry George May, early 18C buildings including one with additions by James Gibbs, mid-19C almshouses in mock Tudor style and dwellings for the poor built in 1664.
Turnham Green Walk
Meet on Sunday at 3pm outside Chiswick Town Hall, Heathfield Terrace, W4 4JN
Beginning at the Victorian/Edwardian Town Hall (also open 2pm – 5pm), this walk takes in the former Sanderson home (famous for wallpapers), including the CFA Voysey industrial building, a statue of William Hogarth, an 1874 Police station and the first Fire station to be built with a hose tower.
