Get Active

The London Loop across the Heath   • Volunteering: Interested in getting more involved and hands on with Hounslow Heath? Why not try a volunteering session. Voluntary work is an important part of what the park provides and it can give people a route back to paid work. Members of the public have volunteered to help the development of the park and have put in a massive amount of time, working in the park. Volunteers of all ages have assisted in a range of activities from planting trees to wood chipping pathways.

We welcome anyone aged over 16 years (under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult and all abilities are welcome. Staff knowledge is passed onto volunteers and they learn about habitat management. Working out in the open and completing a job gives a person satisfaction and can help improve fitness. Volunteers also get to work in a beautiful park with lots of history and wildlife. Volunteer days are held every Wednesday. Please contact education@continental-landscapes.co.uk if you are interested in volunteering with the rangers.

   • Dog Walking; Dogs walkers are free to access all areas of the Heath with the exception of enclosed areas (signs indicate if dogs are not permitted). These will be mostly seasonal restrictions. In all areas of Hounslow Heath dogs MUST be kept on a lead at all times.

  •    • Walking: There are approximately four miles of flat and gently sloping paths around the Nature Reserve. These are natural surfaced paths for the most part and regularly maintained so that they are accessible at all times of the year. Most are suitable for assisted wheelchair users. Please note that in periods of wet weather many will become muddy and require appropriate footwear.

  •    • Riding: the Heath has a bridleway and horse riders are able to use this. The route is generally circular and takes you through most areas of the Heath.

  •    • Wildlife Watching: Hounslow Heath is made up of a variety of habitats and is great for wildlife watching.

  •    • London Loop: The London Loop is one of 6 strategic walking routes designated by the Mayor of London. From Hounslow Heath the Loop runs north, generally following the River Crane, all the way up to and beyond Cranford Park in Hillingdon.

Please note: Barbecues are not permitted anywhere on the Heath.
